LEIF ERICSON

Wednesday, September 23, 2021 Mostly cloudy Breezy Cool 67 Degrees 2:43 p.m.

The answers to yesterday’s question(s): Leif Ericson, sailing from Greenland in the 11th century, is reputed to have discovered Labrador or Newfoundland.

Christopher Columbus, with the Santa Maria and two other ships, left Palos, Spain, on August 3rd, 1492 and touched the Bahamas on October 12, 1492.

A beautiful fall day with a slight chill in the air and smelling crisp and clean. The gentleman who mows the lawn was here this morning mowing the very tall grass. He said he would be back in a week or so as he had to leave it a bit high today due to it still being a bit wet. He is very nice and keeps the grass looking good.

One of Tina’s customers told Tina that she should go to Miss Betty’s and have lunch or dinner. He said that the food is wonderful and the prices great; that it was behind Home Depot, behind the Subway sandwich shop. She said it must be good southern cooking. He said, “No Mam, it is Chinese Cooking.” We went looking for it today and didn’t find it. We now are curious and will keep looking.

The bathroom is slowly coming along. Something has to dry more so he is gone for the day but will be back tomorrow, late. With the wet weather it is taking things longer to dry, even with the fan on them. Plus he had to add more “mud” to one of the walls as the framing is so weird here and the first layer just melted into the drywall. It is an used house for sure.

There isn’t much excitement around here today. While coming home three police cars, lights flashing and sirens blaring, flew by going the other direction. That was a bit scary. I was happy we were going the opposite direction.

Today’s question: Which two chapters in the bible are alike?

Have a grateful, cheery, prosperous, adventurous, positive and stress free rest of your day

THE SS SAVANNAH STEAMSHIP 1819

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 The Start of Fall cloudy 63 degrees 2:35 p.m. Ah!

The answer to yesterday’s question is: The American steamship Savannah made the passage from Savannah Georgia to Liverpool England in 15 days, between May 14th and June 20th, 1819.

Right this moment the sun is trying to break through the clouds and brighten out landscape. We have had lots of rain including a heavy downpour around 4:30 this morning. We had thunder and lightening on and off during the night, with a few light rain showers prior to the heavy downpour. It rained all morning until just a bit ago. This tells us that the cold front is here with dryer conditions and cooler temperatures. Fall will officially arrive at 3:28 this afternoon.

We are ready for fall. Our large sign that Tammy gave us last year is ready to be set outside by the front door. There is a sign in the shape of a truck with pumpkins in the back and it says, “Happy Fall y’all”. All the fake fall flowers are set about both indoors and outdoors. And the fall decorations are set about on the buffet, piano, end tables, couch, etc. I am noticing that all of a sudden the cats seem to have an appetite and are begging for food. It isn’t their normal dinner time by about 3 hours.

The grass is about 3 inches tall now and the flowers are looking very pert and pretty. The rosebush is now up to the top window with tons of new growth and buds. It is blocking the bird feeder and that is a no no. So far all I have seen, bird wise, is hummingbirds. They are enjoying all the flowers.

The bathroom now has the sink/vanity installed, and the shower. I hope that they finish tomorrow but I believe it will be Friday. The vanity is very pretty and the shower looks so inviting. I am so eager to get it all set up and ready to use.

Today’s Question: Which of these two men were the first to sail across the Atlantic Ocean? Christopher Columbus r Leif Ericson? And from where to where? and what year(s)

have a super hump day. fill it with beauty, peace, joy, productivity, kindness, grace and love.

Blessings

Tuesday, September 21, 2021 Mostly Cloudy, No breeze 75 degrees 6:08 p.m.

Fall is in the air. We have had rain for the past three and a half days, but has stopped for the moment. We should have more tomorrow when the cold front comes through. Even the trees are getting ready as the leaves are starting to turn colors and a few are floating off.

I am not sure what the picture is of, but the guard building is right up the street from us. No longer is there barbwire or guards, but the buildings remain and are used for something. I do not know what. It is a secret.

We had a busy weekend and Monday. The bathroom isn’t finished yet but will be by the end of the week I am told. I am so eager for it to be done, and know it will be very nice once it is done. I am trying to be patient.

We have had so much rain that the grass has grown close to two inches. All plants are green and pretty, flowers bright and smiling. I am smiling too as I didn’t have to go out and water. It’s the hose that I mind fighting. I don’t mind watering. The rose bush has grown at least a foot and is once again trying to block my view of the bird feeder and birds. It has lots of blooms and buds on it so will leave it alone for the moment. The rain was a gentle rain so no flooding for which I am thankful for.

Time for Tina to get home so must start dinner. It will be lite and easy as it is to late for a full course meal. A salad sounds good and should fill the void.

Have a wonderful, productive, and joyous rest of your day. One new thing ha been added to this Blog. Each day I will have a question. Here is today’s question: What was the name of the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean?

EMPLOYEES LEAVING THE MANHATTAN PROJECT DURING WW2

Thursday, September 16, 2021 Partly Sunny Bit of a Breeze Fluffy Clouds About 82 degrees 3:49 p.m.

Am listening to the ’50’s” music and enjoying the softness of it. So nice after all the sawing and hammering and the noise of the construction. They are finished for the day as the floor has to dry. they laid the tile on the floor today. They will be back on Monday so that gives us a day to get the laundry done and floors moped, etc. When they return they will grout it all. Tuesday they will seal it and Wednesday put in the fixtures, etc. By Friday they will be totally done and I will be busy moving. I sure was hoping they would be done this week but want it all done right and having the shower all tile rather then a fiberglass surround one is worth the extra wait.

The dinner last evening was good and fun. Dotty was surprised and very happy that all came. It was fun. Max, the dog, enjoyed all the extra attention also. Fun and nice people.

The bed moving will be put off for at least a week as one of the helpers will be gone this weekend. Since the bathroom won’t be done this weekend, it is perfectly fine. All works out the way it is supposed to.

The weather is so nice right now. It is due to start warming up again tomorrow and will remain in the high 80s to 90s for next week. then I am in hopes that we get fall. All the fall decorations are out in the stores and at out house. They, mixed with the red and pink geraniums make it quite colorful. Next comes Halloween, then back to fall and the Thanksgiving decorations. Halloween doesn’t get to much attention around here, but I learned from last year to have a bigger bowl of candy ready.. We had a lot of trick or treaters last year.

Time to walk up and get the mail, then water the plants out front. They really are pretty and add so much color and beauty to the front of all three town homes.

Have a beautiful, relaxing, fun filled, cheerful, industrious, and positive rest of your day

Blessings
