Thursday, June 29, 2023 Hazy Smoky Windy Humid 82 Degrees 4:42 p.m.

It hasn’t been a bad day, heat wise. the weather lady said we would be at 90 today and it is only 32. Of course she is in Knoxville and we are in Oak Ridge. It is still smoky, hazy and humid. It is only nine days into summer.

Tammy send a video of Dallas “hunting” fireflies. (Some people call them lightening bugs). She is a fun puppy right now. Here we get to see the lightening bugs at night. One of the pleasures we find back here and not living in the city with all the bright lights.

I understand that once Dallas gets to be 50 pounds she can no longer go to Doggie Day Care. That seems wrong to me. She is now really enjoying going and playing with other puppies, so I would think she should be able to continue. Other dogs get to be 50 plus pounds and still go to Doggie Day Care. They might find another place for her that caters to bigger/heavier puppy dogs. The three she lives with are much smaller then she is and also older. They get along but she needs friends her own size too.

Tonight we are having a salad for dinner. Lettuce, tomato, green pepper, mushrooms (fresh), green onions, and tuna (albacore) salad in the middle. Tina has her choice of dressing if she thinks it is needed. we will have club crackers to go with the salad. Ice tea,or water to drink. An ice cream sandwich or lemon cake for dessert.

Have a great rest of your Thursday. Make it a cool, adventurous, interesting, and fun day.

Wednesday, June 28, 2023 Hazy Sunshine Still warmer Smoky 84 Degrees 5:10 p.m.

I believe the haze is the smoke from the wildfires in Canada. They are having a rough time with all their fires. I hope that they an get them out soon.

Not a whole lot of excitement around here today. I think that we had a deer go through here last night as the birdbath is knocked over and laying on the ground. Maybe more then one. Right now we are the only ones with a birdbath out.

Julie has her new living room floor done so we are going to go over and see it before they get the furniture put back in. We went and looked. It is very nice. The color is a medium brown and tan. So pretty. She said that they just did the living room, hall and laundry room as the rest of the downstairs has tile. One day we will get ours done, but it will be more then just the living room.

It is humid out and warm. The hummingbirds don’t mind as they are very busy enjoying their feeder. I will have to put the new one out in the morning. WE have two so we can change them out. They are such beautiful birds.

Have a great rest of your Wednesday. It is the middle of the work week and you have a long weekend ahead, if you take Monday off. That will make next work week shorter. Make it a pleasant, safe, happy and fun rest of your day.

Tuesday, June 27, 2023 Mostly Sunny Breezy Warm 83 Degrees 4:26 p.m.

The breeze has turned into windy. It is more cloudy then sunny and the humidity is 58 % at the moment. Such crazy weather we are having. It looks like it could rain but the weatherman said not until Friday or Saturday. Who knows? Conley came and mowed the lawn this afternoon so it will probably rain and the grass will grow quickly so that he can come back sooner. Lawn mowing is big business here in East Tennessee and I can sure see why. Grass grows very well and very quickly. Of course, so does everything else, like weeds.

Last week I saw a young deer stroll through the yard. It was so pretty. We were wondering where the rest of the herd was and hoping that it wasn’t an orphan. I guess we won’t know that part of the story. It went on through to the golf course which is at the end of our Greenview Village. Several people who live in this area have golf carts and go play golf often. We haven’t taken up that game as of yet.

Julie, next door, is having new flooring put in their living room. I am so anxious to see it when they are finished. Eventually we will be getting new flooring, but we have other things that have to come first. She said it had been in the planning stages for over five years and they have lived her much longer then that. Right now their living room is in their carport. I told them it is so nice to have such an airy room with a great view. They laughed. It is a bit noisy with the turnpike so close. They can watch the cars speed by. Their own private view to the daily traffic races.

The birds are very busy hunting for worms, eating from the feeders and enjoying the dry weather. I have seen the bluejays our and about this afternoon. The hummingbirds are so pretty and so busy. They have nearly emptied the hummingbird feeder that I filled yesterday. I have seen three and four hummingbirds eating at a time.

Other then that it has been a quiet day. I have been fighting with the computer. it doesn’t want to do what I want it to do so we agreed to disagree. I guess I will have to retype my story over again as it won’t let me send it or affix it as an attachment.

Right now it is time to start dinner. And do a couple other things before Tina gets home.

Monday, June 26, 2023 Mostly Sunny Breezy Warm Humid 82 Degrees 4:26 p.m.

A busy weekend here. Saturday Tina, Tammy, Dottie and I went to Boards and Brushes. What a fun place that is. It is on the order of Sip and Paint, but no sipping and very little painting. We registered a week ago, picked out what we wanted to make and was told to wear old clothes that we didn’t care if we got stain, etc, on. Tammy and Dottie came looking like they were going shopping while Tina and I came looking like we were going to clean the yard. It is a good thing it wasn’t a fashion show event. I wouldn’t of won.

So we got our places and found what we were making. Tammy made a large board to place on her front porch with “The Walters 2022” and then pretty flowers going down the board, vine like. Dottie made a sign that said “Welcome” ; Tina made a wrack for coats, hats, etc. that said “The Walters” and I made a square board. stained mahogany, with a bear and the saying underneath, “Smokey Mountains, Tennessee” . When I chose it I thought it would be easy. It wasn’t. The bear is white with theses cuts outs over it. On the board, when we got started, after sanding and brushing and staining, a stencil of what you are putting on your wood is placed on top. Once you get it just right on the board, you press down and it sticks to the wood. Then you take the tape off the top and apply a color if that is what you need or want. I had to apply white to my bear. When you finish that you remove the stencil and pick out the small pieces that are left. Those are the design on the bear. The saying is also in white. You then let it dry. I know I forgot a few steps but it took a good three hours to do this and I would still be there if I hadn’t had help. You have to put the hanger on the back as well as the two stick type boards to hold the two flat ones together. It takes the drill, screws, hammers, screwdrivers, etc. and then some to get it all done. But it was sure fun and a well worthwhile experience. Thank you Diana for such an amazing Christmas gift.

After leaving there we all went to Chewy’s for a late lunch. That was fun. Jerry met us there and we all discussed our adventures. Chewy’s is a Mexican restaurant that Tina likes. She had tequilas, I had a taco, Tammy had a quesadilla, I can’t remember what Dottie had, and Jerry had a burrito. Of course rice and beans. It was a fun gathering.

We left there, went to Publix’s for groceries. They have the best veggies and that is what we needed. Then home. After putting things away we didn’t do much. However, Jerry and Tammy cleaned out the shed and did a couple other things, and Dottie mowed her back lawn! Boy, did we feel lazy after hear of their accomplishments.

Sunday was a day that we did a bit more. Tina vacuumed up stairs and the stairs and fixed corned beef and cabbage for dinner. We were to have company but an afternoon storm put an end to that. We had thundered, lightening, wind and heavy rain for about two to three hours. By the time it quit our plans had been cancelled. The storm came back about 2:00 a.m. and woke me up each time with the loud thunder and bright lightening. Tina said that it woke her up also.
