A HISTORICAL MARKER TELLING ABOUT THE CITY OF OAK RIDGE

Tuesday, February 8, 2022 Sunny Breezy Beautiful 51 degrees 4:27 p.m.

The Olympics are in full swing! NBC is broadcasting the events here and they seem to of taken over the total guide for programing on that station. Tina is glued to the set and is so excited when the ice skating comes on, the figure skating, the snow boarding and the skying. Also the tobogganing. Since she has to work, sleep and eat, she is recording it all and will spend her next day off watching it. Since she missed the news interview where they said that politics was half of the Olympics and sports the other half.

The other day we stopped in a small craft shop here to see if they did embroidering, or knew of anyone who did. Tina needs her name put on her Home Depot jacket as most everyone has one and they all look alike. She wants her name put on hers so she will know it is hers that she is wearing and not someone else’s. I guess there is a coat wrack that they hang their coats on or something. The lady said that she would check around and see if she could find someone. There are a lot of lovely things in that shop and it is fun to brows . Jewelry is a big item and so many people make lovely items I am sure sell well. There was some beautiful tote bags, purses, paintings, mosaic, photos and lots of other stuff. Not a great deal of any of it, but nicely displayed small areas of each. The prices are good and the lady that was there was very nice. I am sure we will go back.

I hope that the Covid epidemic goes away very soon and some sort of normality returns. To a degree I can understand people wanting to work from home, but not quitting a job to see if there is something out there that they might enjoy more or because McDonald’s pays more, etc. They are the same ones who, along with the rest of the population, moans about the empty shelves and the inability of not being able to get the items that they want or need. We are having a few problems getting the cat food that The Devi, Sierra, and His Highness, Milo prefer. They do like the dry food but prefer sharing a small can of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Chicken Feast in Grilled Chicken Flavor gravy. They like this for breakfast and for dinner.

Us humans have a problem getting sugar free French Vanilla Creamora. But that is a small like, and I can easily drink my coffee black. We seem to be doing well with everything else. We have noticed the hike in the prices of everything and I doubt that will change for the better any time soon, if at all. Oh, yes, the truck drivers need to go back to work. They are begging for truck drivers, qualified, trained and ready to drive. We had one in Knoxville who had an wreck, killed a policeman, and destroyed several cars in the process. He was high on pot, had an expired LCD license, two tires on the truck were bad, one flat and one thread bare.. And a couple of other things. He had lost his license a year or so ago. The truck he was driving was a Knight Truck, but I believe he had just taken it without permission. It is a big mess. He was in court yesterday and I haven’t heard what all went on there, but am interested. Meanwhile the shelves are getting bare and supplies are sitting out in the gulfs, waiting to be unloaded and the warehouses are full, waiting for the truck drivers to come and carry the goods away.

Time to think about ending this and getting ready for the dinner, news and evening programs. Have a great rest of your day. Make it a happy, healthy, carefree, enjoyable and fun one.

Blessings

THE SEAL OF OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE

Monday, February 7, 2022 Sunny Cold Breeze Cold 50 degrees 4:11 p.m.

The first Monday of the Second Month of the year 2022. Today is Constitution Day Observed in Mexico. My calendar is full of inessential information that might be useful on Jeopardy. The true day if this occasion was last Saturday but I guess they felt that they needed a holiday, day off work, so are observing it today.

Today was garbage day. The garbage man came around in their nice new truck, had the arm with the claw go out and grab the trash can, pick it up and dumb it in the back of the truck. I only saw that it missed once and the garbage man had to get out of the truck and pick up all that garbage and throw it in the truck. I be he is glad that people use garbage bags.

The weekend was busy. Saturday was sunny but cold with a high of 39 degrees. We went to Dottie’s and helped her go through stuff that she wants to sort and get rid of what she no longer wants or needs. Of course we did more visiting then actual work and it was fun. Max, the dog, seemed to enjoy all the looking and sorting . So entertaining when there is something to look into. He is so cute. What she didn’t want we took to Karns on the way home. As we got near the house the traffic was stopped. We saw that there was an accident and it looked like it would be a while so we turned off onto a side street and went for a ride up into the mountain and saw some lovely homes. As pretty as it was and the scenery was gorgeous, but the drop off in the back of some of the homes is far down, and some the driveways are steep so not the place to live if there is snow and ice, ore even rain. So pretty though. By the time we got back to Kingston Pike, the west lane was slowly moving so we got home o.k. The accident was pretty bad as they had a helicopter there when we started our scenic drive. It looked like a four door white pick-up truck and a older green/gray SUV were involved. So sad.

When we got home we curled up with our warm throws and watched some of the recorded shows. That was fun. Sunday Jerry and Tammy came by for f bit. Then we again went back to watching some of the recorded shows. I think we have two more to watch and then we might be caught up.

Today has been busy with household duties and me working on my story. Story worth is quite the gift given to me by my granddaughter. It really puts my brain to work and my memory to exercise.. Today I have to think what my favorite poem is. Hmm!

With that I will get busy. It is time to think about what to put on the table for the evening fare. Have a great rest of your day. Make it prosperous, pleasant, productive, positive and fun.

ONE OF THE Y2 BUILDINGS IN THE 1950S I BELIEVE

Friday, February 4, 2022 Gray Cloudy Cold Damp 36 degrees 5:00 p.m.

It has been a dark and damp and cold day. The sun hasn’t peeked out at all, nor have we seen even a hint of a blue sky. The puddles from the rain during the night are gone but everything is still wet. The streets are dry for the most part so there should be no icy streets in the morning. But the cold will linger on for a few more days. That groundhog saw his shadow!

The picture above isn’t very good, but it is part of the labs for y2, the scientist building where so many inventions and useful things are built for our defense and also for our everyday needs. On CBS on Sunday mornings, between 6 and 9 is Information Impossible and that is different programs with information on all sort of thing. I see a scientist on there from her fairly often telling about different things and how they work. It is interesting, educational and a lot of the time, unbelievable, but good.

The Olympics have started and, of course, we will be watching quite a bit of that for the next two weeks. I am disappointed that the United States doesn’t have a delegation over there to root our team on. It is because our government is not approving of China’s human rights or some such thing. I can understand that but I do believe that politics should be kept out of the Olympics. It seems like politics has to have their nose in everything and most of it is for self rather then for the people and the country. Now I am off my bandwagon.

Today is son Jimmy’s birthday so have to call him and wish him a Happy One! It is a little after 2 there so he should be available to receive a call. That is next on the agenda.

Have a fantastic rest f your Friday, and a sublime, fun, adventurous, enjoyable weekend Make it safe and healthy.

THE GREAT SEAL OF OAK RIDGE TENNESSEE

Thursday, February 3, 2022 Rain Rain Rain 52 Degrees 4:56 p.m.

The weatherman said it was going to rain through Friday morning, with the rain turning to snow or hail Friday morning early. That is when the cold front is going to arrive. I am not complaining as so many people are having tons of snow and ice, power outages and all kinds of weather problems. Here, we are doing well and I am very thankful. There is an ice storm due to hit someplace in Indiana or Kentucky and farther up the east coast. My heart goes out to those people.

It has been a quiet day here. With the rain only Tina has gone out and that was to go to work. She said that it wasn’t raining when she left. It is raining now so will be when she get off.

Yesterday was Groundhog day. He saw his shadow so we will have 6 more weeks of winter. That is what the calendar says also. This week we have “celebrated Chinese New Year, Groundhog Day and coming up is Constitution Day in Mexico. Also my oldest son’s birthday. The big 60. He is working his way towards becoming a member of A.A.R.P.!

A busy week for the first week in February!

There have been two major fires in empty buildings in Knoxville, set by unauthorized people making their home there and setting warming fires during these cold winder days and nights. The fire marshal said that this happens a lot but this time it was a major building that was vacant. There are plenty of places the homeless can go to escape the weather and have hot meals and places to sleep, etc. so they should give up their drugs and take advantage of them.

Other then Milo begging for an early dinner, there isn’t much going on around here. A couple of dogs have been walked, their masters with umbrellas and the dogs without and don’t seem to care. I think they just like getting out and getting some exercise and fresh air.

Have a great rest of your day. Make it a great day full of cheerfulness, kindness, and fun. And productivity.
