THE BIRD CONDO

Thursday, June 23, 2022 Sunny Breezy Hot 93 Degrees 4:37 p.m.

The tree above is the Bird Condo. Home to so many pretty birds.

Another beautiful summer day. A bit on the hot side outdoors but lovely indoors looking out. All seems to be quiet outside as it is the heat of the day and most everything is having their afternoon siesta. People will soon start arriving home from work, taking their dogs for a walk and preparing for the evening. Several will be preparing their meals on the BBQ as it keeps the heat out of the house.

We aren’t doing that but will be serving Papa John’s Pizza for dinner as we are having company. For lunch we had a fresh green salad from the garden with Romain lettuce, green onions, cucumber tomato and grilled chicken. That was very good. Question is, why does the lettuce taste bitter? As gardeners we aren’t the most knowledgeable people. We thought that it would be better then what you buy in the store. So we will keep trying. I should say that Tina and Julie will keep trying and I will keep tasting.

Last evening, while sitting here working on one of the stories that I am writing, Milo, who was sitting in his favorite spot, looking out the door, started growling and yowling and swishing his tail. All of a sudden he came racing across my table, the keyboard and into the windowsill, stuck his head through the blinds and continued growling and hissing and yowling. I finally got to part the blind and saw that there was a strange cat just sitting on the walkway, looking in at him and not being hostile or in the least disturbed by Milo’s rudeness. He sat there , then walked a ways until he was right in front of the door, but still on the walkway, and just looked a us. In a few minutes he wondered off, very nonchalantly. He looked like he was a kitten, but maybe a teenage kitten, and he looked like he was possibly a stray. I thought that if I saw him today I would call animal control and have him picked up as he would at least have a chance to get a new home and a meal. So far I haven’t seen him today and if he (or she) was still around Milo would certainly let us know, loud and clear. I believe it was a he as I doubt Milo would carry on so if it was a female.

Our breeze has turned into more of a wind and the temperature has gone up a degree, now 94. It will get a couple of degrees warmer before it starts to cool down, sometime this evening.

Wednesday, June 22, 2022 2nd day of Summer Breezy Few high White Fluffy Clouds 97 Degrees 5:03 p.m.

Yes, it is rather warm outside. the air conditioning feels quite nice in the house, or any building for that matter. Birds are still hiding in their nests, dogs aren’t going out for a walk just yet, cats are snoozing and all is quiet on the home front. Oh, yes, Tina is at work in the air conditioned Home Depot building.

Last night Pamela came over to play Yahtzee. Normally she wins with high scores and is very lucky in getting lots of yahtzees. last night she won two games and I won one, with 4 Yahtzee’s’. I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking of Tom Hill who thought keeping the dice with the 1 or ace was just dumb, but I won 3 of my yahtzees with the 1 on all five dice. The other one was with the 5;s. So fun. I have never done that before. It was a great evening. We shall see how this evening goes. Maybe we should change games?….

I didn’t add the credits after my story about Warwick in last evenings blog, so here they are: Adapted from Some Folks Feel the Rain, Others Just Get Wet. James W. Moore Dimensions

I hope that you enjoyed the story. sometimes being part of a team instills in us the effort to put our best foot forward.

Our garden produced nicely today. We were able to pick some radishes, zucchini, romaine lettuce and a yellow squash. That is good eating I think. A nice salad for sure. We are now looking for medium sized loaf pans to bake breads in. The one size we have is to small and the other size is to big. Like Goldy locks, we want the one that is just right, the middle size. We want to make banana bread and zucchini bread, etc. It sounds like shopping to me. Maybe Amazon has them?

BINGO IN SEARCHLIGHT PARKS & REC

Tuesday, June 21, 2022 Sunny Clear Hot Slight Breeze 94 degrees 4:52 p.m.

I think there is a bit of humidity today as I feel it when I go outside. But, still, not bad for the most part. I nthe house it is nice and comfortable.

The excitement last night was sitting here and watching the fire flies. so pretty and interesting. there were several of them lighting up the grass and area. I don’t know how long they stay or live and when the “season” is over but I do intend to enjoy them as I see them.

Today we had a gold finch dining at out bird feeder. they are so pretty and fun to watch. I do hope he comes back again tomorrow, and bring his friends. You can tell we live an extremely exciting life here in the Secret City.

Not much to talk about so her is the Quote for the day: BELIEF IS ALL YOU NEED. a MAN WAS LOST WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE COUNTRY. As he was trying to read the map he accidentally drove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn’t injured his car was stuck deep in the mud. So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

“Warwick can get you out of the ditch,” said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing in a field. The man looked at the haggardly mule and looked at the farmer who just stood there repeating, “yup, old Warwick can do the job.” The man figured he had nothing to lose . The two men and Warwick made their way back to the ditch.

The farmer hitched the mule to the car. With a snap of the reins he shouted. “Pull, Fred Pull. Jack Pull, Ted Pull, Warwick, Pull”. And the mule pulled the car from the ditch with very little effort.

The man was amazed. He thanked the farmer, patted the mule and asked, “Why did you call out all of those other names before you called Warwick? The farmer grinned and said, “Old Warwick is just about blind. As long as he believes he’s part of a team, he doesn’t mind pulling.”

Have a great rest of your Tuesday. Enjoy Summer, this is the first day of summer fun, thrills, excitement, short shorts, swimsuits, and dieting. Hit dogs, potato salad, ribs, corn on the cob, yum!

TINA AND SIMBA ON PORCH IN SEARCHLIGHT

Monday, June 20, 2022 Sunny Breezy Warm 88 Degrees 4:27 p.m.

A beautiful last day of spring. Quite warm but not bad. Much better then last week as the humidity is low and that is nice. The birds are singing and having dinner at the bird feeders. Right now it is the robins who are out and about. the littler birds must be in their nests, I think. Our excitement this morning was a deer in the front yard. She (he) ?) looked sort of lost and seemed to be seeking the rest of the herd. But She was so pretty. She didn’t stay but a minute, and no time to grab he camera. I will keep watch and maybe one day another deer will venture into our yard.

Tina is at work. I took her to work and soon will have to go get her. Since it is hot and there is no shade to park in there we thought that if I take her and go pick her up the car can spend most of the day in the car port and not in the sun. Also, if I want to or need to go someplace I will have the car and she won’t have to take me after work or go do errands when she gets off work. This works as long as her hours are not really weird. I won’t take her to work at 4:30 on Saturday mornings, nor at 6:30 on Sunday mornings. She works 4 hours on those days and there is no need for me to keep the car.

Today has been laundry day….. I have washed things that are normally not in the weekly laundry. I did pillows, robes, the one bed spread and shams, and the towels. Tomorrow I will do the rest of the laundry. It is nice to get some of the extra things done, and freshened up. Part of the spring cleaning.

The weekend was quiet. We didn’t do much Saturday as we were waiting for the cupboard I bought to be delivered. they called about 11-ish and said that as he was bringing it down the porch steps it fell apart. they were so kind and brought mu money back. They said that most everything was sold and they made several more trips to the dump. They hope to start demo in a couple of weeks. They are also, now, wondering what other surprises they will find as they move forward with the remodeling. I am sure they will find lots of surprises as I doubt anything has been done to that house since the day it was built. We wish them well.
