Thursday, August 3, 2023 Rainy Cloudy Thunderstorms Possible 74 Degrees 4:47 p.m.

A beautiful, rainy Thursday, humid, not hot, just right. Very little action around here today. Other then the hummingbirds who don’t seem to mind the rain and just enjoy the hummingbird feeder. I had to go to the store last evening just to buy sugar for the humming birds. I got ten pounds so that should last until they depart for the winter. Someone said that they fly south in September. We shall see.

I was going to do floors today but with the rain and the humidity I decided to wait until tomorrow as the floors take for ever to dry when it is rainy and humid outside. Even the air conditioner doesn’t help, and it hasn’t come on much today. The wallet Loves the cooler summer days.

I am reading a book, Secrets From Grandma’s Attic series, “The Prince and the Popper”. It is very good, very interesting and is a mystery. The newspaper in this town is offering an $10,000 reward for anyone who can find out who the person is going around doing kind services for people and putting up purple signs all over town with uplifting sentences on them. The town is covered with these purple signs. That reward has brought out all sorts of people, not all with the good intentions the signs are suggesting. So, I am losing sleep over this book as each page has its’ own mystery.

Wednesday, August 2, 2023 Cloudy Windy Warm Bit Humid 89 Degrees 3:42 p.m.

A good summer day. There is a storm coming in so the morning sun has given way to afternoon clouds. The rain should be here the rest of the week, being showers and thunderstorms. That means not a steady rain but on and off, mostly on, for the next three or four days. It also means the temperature will go up some and the humidity will go up a whole lot. Summertime in East Tennessee.

Monday was garbage day. The recycle truck came and picked up the recycling. Now it is Wednesday afternoon and we haven’t seen the garbage man as yet. Also, no word as to why. One opinion is that the garbage men are on strike. Another is that the truck broke down. Who knows. I guess we will wait another day, then call and see what is going on. Meanwhile all these pretty blue containers on wheels are sitting curbside like proud blue soldiers, all in a row. At least they look neat.

On the radio this morning, The Bobby Bones Show, they were discussing the Barbie movie. Now the latest things for dating is If the boys don’t like the Barbie Movie, the girls won’t date them! Next it will probably be the boys will have to also wear pink shirts. I will have to watch the kids get off the school bus to see how many girls are wearing pink……….and boys. The new Fad!

When Charles moved in, a few months before we moved in, he had to have a couple of trees cut down. This morning a guy came with this large machine and ground the stumps clear down to ground level. Now Charles can mow without having to worry about hitting a stump. He was going to dig them up but the roots go on forever in all directions so he would of probably been digging the whole block up. It does look neat and nice there now.

Tuesday, August 1, 2023 Sunny Breezy Warm Less Humid 86 Degrees 4:12 p.m.

A beautiful day here, warm but not hot, sunny, cheerful and just plane nice. Hummingbirds are happy, eating up a storm at the feeder. the other birds are also enjoying feeding at their feeders. The red headed woodpecker is now getting his share. I think he visits everyone’s feeders in the whole area.

It seems strange to see kids getting off the school bus and it being the 1st day of August. What ever happened to school starting the day after Labor Day? I guess that was “back in the day”. Now they start in July and get out in June. Weird. Also, we had pencils, binder paper, binders, ink pen, ruler, etc. Now it is a backpack, laptop computer, pencil, notebook, erasers, glue, rulers, klenex, and I can’t remember what all else. Tina and I each spent money on school supplies to help “Fill the Bus” for the kids in the Appalachian’s. Those kids and parents and teachers really need and appreciate what they get. Nothing is wasted there.
