I’m sorry that I missed yesterday. I started and as I was typing in the date the power went out. When it came back on I wasn’t able to get this site up so finally gave up and went in to fix dinner. It was sunny and hot so was surprised that the power went out. Later on we had a heavy downpour that lasted nearly 30 minutes. Our high yesterday was 93 with tons of humidity.

This morning it is 74 degrees at 8:55 a.m. with no breeze and very weak sunshine. We woke up to fog but here it has dissipated. We are due for more showers later on this afternoon and evening. The grass, trees and flowers are loving it.

Today I plan on getting the floors vacuumed and mopped downstairs, furniture dusted and bathrooms cleaned. Fish sticks and Suddenly Salad for dinner. That is the plan. We shall see how it goes. Tomorrow I want to do the upstairs. It takes me at least two days to get it all done, and it shouldn’t take but one I think. What I once could do in one day now takes me two or three. Ger!

I grabbed one of Wah’s cookbooks and started going through it. I have never paid much attention to this book as I thought it was more of a “joke” book then anything serious. I was wrong. This book, “Bull Cook and Authentic Historical Recipes and Practices” by George Leonard Herter and Berthe E Herter. Herter’s, Waseca, Minnesota. This is a history book as well as a recipe book. It has recipes from way back in the 1700’s and from people like Marie Antoinette, Stonewall Jackson, Clarence Birdseye, and Lafayette. And many more. It is full of history of foods, where they came from, how to prepare them and serve them. The Indians helped with recipes of their different tribes, as did people from all around the world. I will try a few of these as they sound very good and the ingredients are available today in most grocery stores.

That is Wah’s tip for today. Now I have to get busy and put the vacuum to work. Have a great Thursday. Make it a thrifty, thrilling, thankful and fun day.

Another July summer day. this morning the weatherman said 97%humidity with temperatures at 91 . that is defiantly soupy weather! this afternoon the humidity came down a bit, to 76% and the temperature is 92 at 4:17 p.m.They say august will be back to normal temperatures which are to be in the 80’s. Friday is the first day of August.

Pamela came over today and we played yathzee. She won two games and I one one. It was fun. We visited and went to lunch, then a bit of shopping at Beal’s. She shopped. I looked. Her and her hubby are going to the movies this evening to see Superman. She has two dogs and 4 cats, all cute and all running the household.

Other then that it has been a quiet day, I worked on the computer some and did a bit of housework. A daily duty. Sierra helped me a lot. She is such a good secretary. Yes, she is for hire, but is expensive as she demands cat treats and is fussy about which brand, taste, and kind.

Tina just got home. She is on time which is unusual as she normally doesn’t get her until 40:30 and closer to 5:00 or after. She seldom leaves work on time. Now I have to hustle my bustle and think about dinner. She said that her ear is bothering her so isn’t feeling to great and would like tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Sounds good to me. I guess she is tired of spaghetti and meat balls.

Have a great rest of your Tuesday. Make it a thrifty, thrilling, tender and fun day.

An interesting July day. We have had sunshine and then rain, thunder, dark clouds, more rain and now we has a dab of sunshine. It is hot, muggy, and at 4:32 p.m. 84 degrees. We are in a heat warning as without the rain we would be somewhere in the high 90’s with the heat index around 108 degrees. that is what the weatherman is saying. 108 here is a lot different then 108 in Vegas as we have all the humidity to go with it. The humidity was up there as well but don’t remember just where.

Saturday we went to Knoxville and met Jerry, Tammy, and Dottie for lunch at the Mexican Restaurant close to Dottie’s place. the food was good, the place neat and clean, the staff very friendly and on the ball. It is a keeper on the Mexican Food Restaurant list.

After leaving there we went to Dottie’s to put our take home food in her fridge, then headed to Turkey Creek where we shopped at Layne Bryant’s and Walmart. Tina bought at Layne Briant’s and Dottie and I bought at Walmart. Then back to Dottie’s place. We dropped her and her packages off and headed home. The temperature was 98 and it was miserable. The rest of the day was spent mostly doing a little bit of nothing. TV and our chairs.

Sunday we went to the 8:30 service at church. Our pastor is out recuperating from knee replacement surgery so we had the assistant pastor from the neighboring Milestone Churches. He was very good and very down to earth.

After church we went to Kroger’s as I needed to go to their quick care because I was tired of the cough and not feeling quite myself. Sure enough I have a Respiratory infection so am on antibiotics. I feel better today and haven’t coughed as much. If it isn’t gone by next Monday I need to go back. I pray I will be well by next Monday and ready to do whatever it is needed to be done. I did do the laundry today and am thankful it is all done.

Today was the bible group’s monthly lunch. i missed it as did many others. I understand that there were three there. One of the gals brought me a sandwich and said to get well!!!. I thanked her and said that I Will!!. I thought it was sad that so many were missing, and for medical reasons for the most part. Our group start up again the third Monday in September, but we’ll have lunch again on August 25th.

Now Tina is on her way home so had better get to Wha’s House Hold Hints.

Have a great rest of your Monday. Make it a cheerful, helpful, and cool day.

FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2025

A mostly sunny day here in Oak Ridge. We had a good shower last night but so far today it has been ot and dry. The humidity hasn’t been to bad and that is a big help. It is now 3:33 p.m. and 91 degrees outside. It is 72 degrees inside, so I’m staying in.

Fran and I went to lunch at the new Mexican restaurant today. It is called El Toro, is nice inside, clean and renewed. They have been open a week so just starting to get people to come and see what the new Mexican restaurant is all about. Being new, they have a few bugs to work out. Fran and I asked for the chef’s suggestion as that would give us a hint of what it would be like. We were served Polo Hawaiian which consisted of grilled chicken, onions, and pineapple covered with white cheese sauce, served with Mexican rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and tomatoes. It was O.K. but I’m not a fan of the white cheese sauce.

The prices are a bit higher then most, but then I haven’t checked the prices elsewhere so can’t say for sure. The menu is 5-2 sided pages and they have a all pages filled. The print is small. I do see that they charge for most every side, and I see that they charge $1.25 to add or subtract the white cheese to “build your own tacos or burritos, pork tamale, quesadilla, chili relleno. That is different. Can’t wait for Tina to see this menu and for Jerry, Tammy and Dottie to come and try it.

The Weekend is upon us and I see a trip to Knoxville on the horizon. Tina wants to get her car washed, Turkey Creek and shop for a specific item. then get together with Dottie, Jerry, and Tammy for a meal at a Mexican restaurant there that they love and Tina wants to try. She does love Mexican food. I want to look for the arm and head coverings for the two new chairs and a grow light for my Christmas cactus. Sunday is church.

Wah’s House Hold Hints: ‘ A recipe that is not shared with others will soon be forgotten but when shared , it will be enjoyed by future generations.” She left lots of good recipes to share and I do share them.

Have a great rest of your Friday and a fun filled, enjoyable, cool, and saft weekend.
