Wednesday’s child is loving and giving. Thursday’s child works hard for a living.
Partly cloudy, windy, chance of thunderstorms, 92 degrees at 3:37 p.m. It was about the same yesterday at this time, It is summer and we only have 10 weeks or so until fall. My furry secretary is trying to help me, but with a few treats she tends to go check the windows for squirrels or the chipmunk. neither they or the birds are out right now so maybe the storm is on its way.
Yesterday was so fun and interesting. My Friend Fran and her mother-in law picked me up and we went to the Senior Fair at the fair grounds in Clinton. Laura said that it was music, a program and an ice cream social. So I’m thinking music by a local group, then probably a speaker, and then the ice cream social. I am thinking in a dining room or hall of some sort. Boy, was I way off base on that one!
The Senior Fair was held at the fair grounds in a long, metal opened sided building. We parked towards the entrance and started walking. About half way there a golf cart came and asked if we would like a ride. We accepted. He took us right to the front door so to speak and we got out. right away a lady hands each of us a long stemmed red rose. Then another lady hands us a blue bag, like the ones you take in to the grocery store to put your groceries in. And another lady hands us a plastic green bag, ans somewhere a yellow bag appears. Also another lady comes and drops a wooden nickel in the bag, and another hands each of us a raffle ticket. Now we are loaded down with all this baggage, and are looking for a place to sit. Another lady said “Hold on, and off she goes, returning with three folding chairs and places two of them at the end of one row of folding chairs and the other in the row in front of the two.
Fran and I sat in the two and Laura sat in front of us. We sit. Then start trying to put all the excess bags in the blue bag. We balance the big box on our lap and manage to open it to see what it contains. In it is a beautiful tea towel with a picture of a lady ( from the 1940’s or 50’s) and a saying. My towel says; What part of “Thou Shalt Not” don’t you understand?. There was also a pulled pork sandwich, BBQ sauce, baked beans, and coleslaw. And a bottle of water and a small pack of chips. That was lunch. We put the towel in the blue bag and set the empty box under the chair. Then settled in to listen to the country music and watch the band. The band was good, playing a lot of the older country songs and singing , They had a lady who sang a couple of songs, Dolly Parton’s hits mostly. She was also good. The band was good. They had a drummer, and guitars, harmonica, and a fiddle. All in the 70’s I do believe, and all very good. The leader of the band is on U-Tube and said that he plays all the music from the Grand ole Opery back when they started in the 40’s or 50’s. And, he said, it is free so by watching him you save money and get good music to boot. I think his name is West, maybe Russell West. I will have to research that. After the music they had a few contests, Hog Calling, Oldest lady, Oldest man, lady who has the most children (two winners, each with 11 children.) and funniest hats. There were five contestants each with a cute hat. One was a tea party. she had a small tray on this hat with a child’s tea pot and two cups and saucers. One was “New Orleans February Celebration with Fat Tuesday. One was sun flowers and one, the winner, had a Coronal Sanders chicken bucket with chicken feet glued sticking out the bottom and on top of the bucket was a nest with a chicken sitting on it. So well put together and so cute. She won. I can’t remember what the fifth lady had.
Then they introduced the current Miss Anderson County and all those in the grade levels below. I am not sure about that as far as what they represented so don’t quote me on that.. They go from High School Senior to first grade. All dressed so pretty and all had crowns.
Finally they got to the drawings. The prizes were outstanding. There must of been close to fifty if not more, and there was $50.00 gift cards to Food City, $20.00 dollar bills, a small refrigerator for the desk maybe would hold a 6 pack of soda’s, etc.; a cordless vacuum, a pretty bamboo container with kitchen tools in it and a large bag with all sorts of kitchen gadgets in it. many more but I can’t remember it all. Needless to say neither of us won anything. But we had a great time. After the drawings it was time to hike up to another building for the ice cream. By that time we had sat for three hours and really just wanted to go home, so we started walking to the car and soon was picked up by a golf cart. That was a blessings as back to the car was all up hill.
Today was just the normal housework. Being home bound isn’t bad. I cancelled my PT for today and will see what happens next week car wise. I still hurt from Tuesday’s session so don’t mind missing today. Now it is my left hip that hurts. Gr! I will continue doing my exercises as I don’t want to undo what good that has already been done.
