A rainy Tuesday, cool, 68 degrees at 3:59 p.m. The weather seems to prefer rain, so maybe May Showers will bring June Flowers. I do see flowers most everywhere and they are very pretty. We even have a few in our flowerbed. The grass is growing nicely, all over the place as is the weeds and trees and bushes, etc. All are well watered.

This morning I saw, among all the pretty birds, a baby or very young red bellied woodpecker eating out of one of the bird feeders. He/she is the red bellied one according to the bird book. We have so many different birds flying in and out and that makes it interesting. The squirrels and chipmunk don’t seem to mind, especially when they knock birdseed down for them. We now have three squirrels.

Our Memorial Day afternoon at Jerry’s was fun. A couple who were their neighbors at the old house were there with their dog, Max, who is a Saint Bernard. He is so big, a bit bigger then Sarge and Dallas. He is as fun and as loving as they are. All the dogs got along just fine, ran and played in the large yard, visited us on the deck. They barked at whatever they thought they heard or saw, then laid down and took a nap. They are happy dogs.

The people were great, very nice and fun. Borrie Keith, Dottie, Noah, Tammy, Jerry, Betty and Ralph, and myself were the humans there. We had hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, potato salad, broccoli salad, watermelon, baked beans, apple pie, peach cobber and chocolate chip cookies. Jerry claimed the cookies and grudgingly let us each have one. He is a cookie-holic. Their place is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. The gathering was wonderful and both Tina and I enjoyed it all and are so thankful for being invited to such gun things.

MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 26, 2025

Happy Monday, the Monday that we remember our service men and women who died while fighting to protect our nation, our freedom, our way of life, and our lives. I know that this day is set aside to honor and respect the men and women who were in our military. I do think that we should remember the first responders that serve us in our towns, cities, and states….the Police, the State Troupers, The ambulance E.M.T.’s, all the people who give of their time and talent to answer our calls for help any time day or night.

Today Tina is a work for a few hours. This afternoon we are going to Jerry’s for a Memorial Day get together. That is always fun. I told him that we were bringing the watermelon, but he would have to go get it and I would pay him for it. Tina and I went grocery shopping on Saturday and looked at watermelons. neither of us could pick one of any size up. Of course the ones that we could reach ere big ones. He laughed and said we should go to the gym. He and Tammy go to the gym often. He and Tammy are a bit younger then us.

Today we have rain, The time is 9:08 a.m. and the temperature is 59 degrees. We are to have showers on and off all day, and most of the week. Everything here is so green and lush and pretty. Those who are in the lawn mowing and landscape business are very busy trying to keep up with the fast growing grass and weeds, and the vine that seems to take over everything it touches. The flowers are so pretty and grow , and last a long time. Umbrellas are a necessity here as are rain boots and raincoats.

The chipmunk just dashed by. He is such a busy little animal, spending his day dashing back and forth, I believe, gathering food. I don’t know if he has a family or if it is a he or a she, as I only see the one. but it is cute. We have two squirrels now. They ignore the chipmunk ad gather the birdseed that is dropped by the birds, from the bird feeders. The squirrels can’t get in the bird feeders but they do try. I enjoy watching them try.

Wah’s House Hold Hints: ” Neglected Paint Brushes: Soak neglected paint brushes i hot vinegar to clean and make them pliable as new.”

Have great rest of your Memorial Day weekend. Make it a safe, sociable, adventurous, and fun one.

THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2025

A beautiful day in Oak Ridge. A bit cooler, but very nice. It is sunny, windy, 77 degrees at 5:13 p.m. the birds are out enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, eating all the birdseed that they can find. The squirrels and the chipmunk are gathering all that the birds drop on the ground. So much fun watching them. We have several different kinds of birds so it is interesting watching them and seeing how different they are in size and looks but they all eat birdseed from the feeders, mostly very congenially.

From the TV, the highways and byways are very busy this evening. I imagine that the airports are also. The air travel companies are certainly having a rough time with their flights, employees, planes and customers. I guess they are going to have to spend lots of money to get everything up to date in all departments. That is a shame. I do know that I have no desire to fly anyplace right now.

Today I have done some house cleaning, using the new Shark Vacuum and it is powerful, heavy and a bit hard to manage. It does a fantastic job though. I think it will be a one room a day type vacuum as that is about all I can handle. I have a lot to learn about all the great features it has. So many useful attachments that will do, reach, and whatever else I haven’t found as yet.

Tina is home so time for dinner. Sierra is also telling me that it is time for dinner.

Wah’s House Hold Hints: “Hydrogen Peroxide softens ear wax. A safe, effective way to clean your ears is to fold a face tissue and twist one corner tightly. Place a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on this end of the tissue and insert it into the ear. Leave it in place about 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary. The hydrogen proxide will soften the was and it will adhere to the tissue.”

Have a great Thursday. Make it a cheerful, fun, safe and exciting day.

WEDNESDAY MAY 21, 2025

A beautiful, sunny, windy day in Oak Ridge. the temperature is 76 degrees and the time is 2:31 p.m. Everything is green, grass is growing by the second, flowers are blooming, weeds are happy, soil is very damp it wet, and life is good in our neighborhood, Green View.

The storm came in yesterday afternoon, complete with tornado warnings, a downpour of rain, winds , thunder and lightening. That one went through fairly quickly. the clouds drifted by and the sun peeked out for a bit. A quiet early evening. then the thunder arrived, the tornado watches, warnings, the lightening lit everything up, the rains came and all of Tennessee and Kentucky were in the grips of the spring storm’s vengeance. The TV kept us updated as to where the line of storms were and what was getting hit, where the tornadoes were likely to form and hit, etc. By 10:15 p.m., Tina said she was going up to bed as she was sure the worst was over. I followed about 15 minutes later after seeing where all the action was, which was in parts of Knoxville. We still had the thunder and lightening and the wind and the rain, rain, rain!

Dottie said that Max, her dog, slept through all the thunder, etc. Tammy texted and said that She had three dogs in her lap or right beside her and that Jerry had two dogs as close to him as they could get. They didn’t like that thunder and lightening one bit. Sierra switched between Tina’s lap and mine, raised her head when a loud clap of thunder woke her, then right back to sleep. We had one extremely loud clap of thunder that made all three of us stand up as it sounded like it was in the room with us. It must of been right over head.

So far, I have heard of trees being hit and laying across roads, etc. and in some areas of Oak Ridge the power was out and power lines down. That was all the damage I have heard about. That isn’t bad considering so many places got hit really bad.

this evening is Crafts so am getting everything done early. After this I will prepare dinner. WE are having Tuna helper. I was going to fix it last week but Tina brought dinner home so we will have it this evening. We shall see if we like it . I will have a salad to go with it.

Wha’s House Hold Hints: “To get rid of cockroaches – 1 tbsp. Boric acid powder mixed with 1tbsp flour. sprinkle around corners or edges of cabinets, closets, and rooms. This will get rid of them. Put cucumber skins around to get rid of ants.”

Have a great rest of your Wednesday. Make it a cheerful, productive, positive and fun day.
