THE PLACE TO VISIT THIS TIME OF YEAR

Thursday, November 18, 2021 cloudy windy rainy cold 48 degrees 4:04 p.m.

A day that looks more like winter then fall. However, it is November and a week from Thanksgiving so the cold and wet weather is about right. who know, maybe snow for Christmas or sooner. The leaves are blanketing most every lawn and street in East Tennessee and the trees are loosing their foliage quickly. Soon we will be able to see all the places hidden by the thick trees that are everywhere here. So many treasures hidden from view.

Dolly Wood is one of the main attractions in this part of the world, this time of year. From what I understand she goes all out with the decorations, the amusements, the live music, caroling, star attractions, food and I don’t know what else. We are not going this year either but maybe next year if all settles down and it is healthier to be around crowds. For now, we can enjoy some of it on TV, like the adds.

Another place we want to visit is The Builtmore . It looks fabulous and something like Dalton Abby. All who have gone there say it is beautiful and relaxing. That would be an over night stay or maybe a weekend stay.

We are looking forward to 2022 being a healthier and more back to normal year. That is the prayer. Meantime we will do the very best with what we have. The store shelves being empty or close to it will teach us all to be more prepared, to learn different recopies to clean with vinegar and soap and water, to do a lot of our normal daily things a bit differently. Our forefathers didn’t have all the luxury items that we have today and they did just fine. They worked hard and depended on themselves and help from the neighbor if needed. they didn’t have electricity or indoor plumbing. they cut down the Christmas tree and strung pop corn chains for garland. A gift under the tree was something that was made by hand for them so treasured , Just something to think about while doing your holiday baking and shopping. I personally, appreciate the indoor plumbing and electricity. And I probably would starve if I had to go out and kill the turkey to fix the Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I am a wimp!

Have a great rest of your Thursday and remember, a week away is the Thanksgiving Day. Be Thankful!

THE MAGICAL FALL COLORS IN EAST TENNESSEE

Wednesday, November 17, 2021 a beautiful fall day windy, 70 degrees 5:07 p.m.

A slightly warm breeze outdoors, leaves swaying in the breeze, some blowing across yards, being caught in plants, walkways, trees and parked cars. The yard across the street is carpeted with the leaves from their tall trees, elms and maple and oaks. All shedding their foliage preparing for winter coming just around the corner. Today our high is 70 degrees, tomorrow it is said to be 59 degrees with rain showers.

With all the adds for Christmas shopping, and all the stores decorated for Christmas, including Christmas Carols, I wonder who will still be in the Christmas Spirit by December 25th? I know there is a deadline for packages getting to their destination in time, and Christmas Cards reaching their destination in time, But wonder if Santa and his reindeer will reach their destination on time? Will his sleigh be so loaded down with gifts and toys that the poor reindeer won’t be able to fly? With all the shopping done now, will there be supplies available for the elf’s to make toys? With the prices going up for materials will the toys be smaller?

Only the Grinch knows

Have a wonderful, fun filled and relaxing rest of your day

PAST PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Tuesday, November 16, 2021 Overcast Chilly Slight Breeze 55 degrees 5:05 p.m.

After listening to the news and all the comments on Washington”s passing the spending bill for the infrastructure; and the “wish list” of President Biden to pass many more spending bills I thought that I would put in a piece from Past President Abraham Lincoln . this has been hanging on my wall in my home”s” for more years then I can remember. I believe it was my aunt’s before it was mine so has been around many years.

“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more then you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”

I do believe this to be very true. I also believe that what is happening today is just what the above says shouldn’t happen.

Have a wonderful rest of your Tuesday. Make it a thoughtful, kind, productive and pleasant day.

A TRUE QUOTE FROM A PAST U S. PRESIDENT

Monday, November 15, 2021 Partly Cloudy, Still, Sunset 52 degrees 5:23 p.m.

Monday already and the middle of November. It seems like just yesterday was the first of the month. Time sure flies by when one isn’t paying attention.

The weekend was very busy. Friday we were in Knoxville all day. The morning was spent shopping for certain items and called for stopping at several stores to get the three items we were looking for. After finally finding them we had lunch, then time for my ultrasound. That went well but took two hours. By then it was time to head home. Of course we had to stop at Walmart for prescriptions, then home.

Saturday we got our hair cut. Then worked around the house some. It was cold so didn’t do much outside even though we had planned on cleaning out the front flowerbed. Maybe Wednesday, or tomorrow.

Sunday we got up early (4:30) to watch Charles Stanley. He is on for an hour, from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. Then Tina has to get ready for work and leave by 6:30. After she left I got my shower, dressed and proceeded to wrap he birthday gift.. That was no easy job as Sierra insisted on “helping” by sitting on the box, on the paper, swatting at the ribbon, and in general, being a pest. I finally grave her a couple of treats and she left for a few minutes. I barely got the gift wrapped and hidden, and all the wrapping stuff put away before Tina got home. Shortly after she got home Dottie came so we sat and visited. Tina took a nap but not a long one so we sat and visited a while longer. Finally Dottie said”why don’t we go have a late lunch. I would like to try that Mexican restaurant you are always saying is so good”. So we said sure.

(While Tina was taking a nap we took my wrapped gift out to her car). I went upstairs and changed into something a bit warmer, like a heavy sweater as it was only 43 outside, and came down ready to go. When we were parking this guy walks across the parking l;ot going into the restaurant and Tina said that he resembled Jerry. I said, yes, sort of .

we walk in and they had already gotten a table, ordered chips and drinks and were waiting to surprise her. She was shocked! Jerry is a Cowboys fan and she just knew that he wouldn’t leave home during the game. It was on there.

So there was Jerry, Tammy, Tammy’s mom, Dottie and her dad, Robbie, and me all surprising Tina for her 61st birthday! She will have another small party tomorrow when Diana and the kids come over for lunch. Tina has to leave for work at 3:00 and Diana will have to take the kids to lessons so we shall have lunch close to noon,. That should be fun also. The kids are a riot.

Today was another trip to Knoxville to exchange a couple of items and I had a doctor’s appointment. Now home, dinner, dishes and TV for a couple of hours. Have a wonderful rest of your day. Make it a spectacular one.
