Wednesday, June 19, 2024 Partly Sunny Slight Breeze Hot 86 Degrees 4:40 p.m.

Happy Juneteenth! Make it a true day of unity and freedom for all!

Another hot and humid pre summer day in East Tennessee. I am not complaining as to the North it is hotter, out west they have fires, down south there is a tropical storm brewing and has sent tons of rain ahead of its’ landing. It isn’t summer until tomorrow and the summer weather has been here all month long it seems. Maybe an early fall?

The “Hoppin” John was very good. We will be buying more cans of that. The chicken was also good and the rice also. Dinner last evening turned out well. Tonight we are having Tuna Salad on a lettuce leaf with crackers and ice tea. We have crafts at church so needed something quick, easy and light. We had leftovers from last nights’ dinner for lunch today so neither of us are hungry for a big meal.

It has been a quiet day around here. Very little activity in this neighborhood that I have seen. The humidity plus heat keeps people in and enjoying their air conditioning. The animals don’t want to be out in it either so no floor shows for awhile, I guess.

Quote of the day: “A painting (is) a symbol for the universe. Inside it, each piece relates to the other. Each piece is only answerable to the rest of that little world. So probably in the total universe, there is the kind of total harmony but we get only little tastes of it.” Coreta Kent, 1918 – 1986. American artist

Have a great rest of your Hump Day. Make it a super cheerful, adventurous, productive, sociable and fun day.

Tuesday, June 18, 2024 Partly Sunny Humid Still Hot 87 Degrees 4:09 p.m.

Another pre summer hot day. Not quite as hot as some, but well over the norm. So, that makes for a day with no puppy dogs going for long walks as it is to hot for their feet. The birds aren’t very active as, I believe, take long afternoon siestas. The were out this morning, singing and chattering, having a lively conversation while stocking up on their food for the day. They are very busy and cheerful as they go about their daily duties.

Today I gave in and did the laundry. The weather person said that this heat will last into next week, so no sense putting the laundry off until it cools down. It wasn’t too bad, as I got an early start and was mostly done by noon. I am thankful that we have a dryer and I don’t have to go outdoors and hang clothes. I do have to say that in Nevada, by the time the first load of clothes is hung to dry, and you go out to hang the second load, the first load is dry and ready to come in. Here, that wouldn’t work as it is to humid right now.

Today’s evening meal is going to be chicken breasts, sauteed with onions and green peppers, etc, Hoppin’ John and cilantro rice. Hoppin’ John is Blackeyed peas, peppers and onions. I think it sounds good and should be interesting. It is a southern dish. If it is good, I can get another can and save it for New Years as that is when one is supposed to have blackeyed peas.

Have a great rest of your Tuesday. Make it a taco Tuesday, an interesting, Tuesday and a fun Tuesday.

Monday, June 17, 2024 Sunny Muggy Hot Breezy 92 Degrees 5:20 p.m.

Summer is here. It is hot and muggy, a slight hot breeze, sunshine and the swimsuit complete with pool weather. Fortunately, we have very good air conditioning so staying indoors is a pleasure. The weather person said that we might get a thunderstorm this afternoon, but so far, I haven’t seen a drop of rain nor have I heard thunder. So goes life. After watching the weather across the nation, we are just fine here.

My heart goes out to the people in California with all the fires as well as the heat. And Florida with the rain and flooding. They are having an early summer with the fires already burning over a thousand acres. Buildings lost, businesses lost and the visitors to the national park having to leave in a hurry, disrupting their Father’ Day visit and camping trip.

Speaking of Father’s Day, I hope each of you had a wonderful Father’s Day. Receiving lots of neat looking socks and ties. Of course, I don’t expect the Mom’s to of received those as it wasn’t Mom’s Day. But I am sure the Mom’s enjoyed the good food and company.

Here, Saturday Tina and I received our new glasses. It is wonderful to be able to see the computer and read everything. So awesome. I can also walk with the glasses on as well as sit and read a book, magazine and the mail. Tina is over the moon with being able to see everything clearly, read, and work on the computer without a headache. She got dark glasses as well and very much appreciates having them, especially now with all the bright sunshine. These are the best glasses, fittings, tests, and care we have had with the eyes since leaving Las Vegas and Boulder City. Thank you Lens Crafter’s and Dr. Carlson.

We then visited Jerry and Tammy, and of course the five furry family members. They are so fun and cute. We also got to see the deck that they have put around the above ground swimming pool. It is very nice. they had to put a gate on the steps as Lacy, the cute little white schnauzer as she loves to swim and will jump in given the chance. The rest could care less about the pool, steps, gate or people. So fun.

Nest we visited Dottie and Max. Max is a little better. His bruise is healing slowly so she keeps an eye on him so he doesn’t scratch it. He is loving all the attention. We took lunch so enjoyed the visit and the food. Nix and J’s have the best hamburgers and sandwiches anywhere.

Sunday we went to church, then spent the rest of the day doing odds and ends around the house, watching TV and relaxing.

Have a great rest of your Monday. Make it a profitable, cool, cheerful, friendly, and fun day.

Thursday, June 13, 2024 Sunny Still Hot Muggy 89 Degrees 5:30 p.m.

Summer temperatures are here and there is seven days until the First Day of Summer! Knoxville has cooling stations put up all over town, and the warnings are up for all to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, wide brim hats and stay cool. It normally isn’t this hot here this early. The norm here is between 75 and 80 this time of year. It would feel like Vegas if it weren’t for the mugginess. By the way, the new HVAC works wonderfully well.

Yesterday was nice. The doctor said I was doing very well, no problems. I have lost weight, 5 pounds since December. That was nice to hear. I don’t have to visit him until December unless something comes up. I will go in and get my flu shot and whatever other is needed by November or October or September.

Dottie was feeling a bit better, but worried about Max, her dog. He had scrapped a spot under his eye so she was trying to keep it from getting infected or made worse. This morning she said it looked better. He is 14 years old. She works so hard at keeping him safe and well cared for. He is her best friend.

Tina drove my car yesterday as we had to get a new battery in it. I enjoyed the ride as she was use to her new car. It the Tesla, you push a button for the car to back up, the screen to come up, and then it goes letting up on the gas when it needs to slow down or stop. So she gets in the old car. She pushes the end of the windshield wiper handle and nothing happens. The car doesn’t start and she has this blank look on her face. I finally say, ” turn the key and it will start.” She looked at me, then did as I asked. Leaving she barely touched the break and nothing happened, so she pushed down hard and it stopped. It took her a couple of miles to get back in the grove of driving the old car, MY car. It was very amusing and we both enjoyed the good laugh, afterwards.
