Tuesday, June 11, 2024 Mostly Sunny Breezy Warm 79 Degrees 5:30 p.m.

A beautiful day here. Tomorrow the start of the heat wave is to arrive. I have done the laundry today and will get get anything else done that requires a bit of cool. Tomorrow is a doctor’s appointment so I won’t accomplish much. But it will be a nice day and a fun day, I think.

We are having salmon for dinner, then watermelon for desert. An easy meal and refreshing as I will have a salad and veggie to go with the salmon. My kids aren’t the biggest fish fans, but every so often I prepare salmon and they eat it. At least Tina does. Tuna is a different story. They like that, the albacore, that is. Even the cat doesn’t like fish!

There isn’t much news around here this evening. I see where Nevada is at the polls voting. We have already had the primary. November is only five months away.

I am still in awe of how beautiful the Fireflies were Friday evening. That was such a blessing, to get to witness that.

MONDAY, JUNE 10, 2024

Monday, June 10, 2024 Partly Sunny Breezy Warm 79 Degrees 2:22 p.m.

A beautiful Monday. The weatherman said we are headed for a hot weekend, starting Wednesday and working up to 92 or so by Sunday. Happy Father’s Day. yes, summer is nearly upon us according to the calendar, but the weather personnel say that it is really here now. I believe them. So thankful for the new HVAC unit, air conditioner/heater. Right now, the air conditioner mostly.

The weekend was great! The Fireflies were awesome. They could sure put the bright lights of Vegas to shame. Sitting out in the forest, all still and so pretty. There was a river running close by and the sound of the water was so nice. We walked around a bit, saw an old wooden bridge, change off to keep people off. There was an old grave yard up the trail a bit, and a building that was in mostly hidden by the thick grove of trees. Tina was hoping to see some wild animals, bears, deer, etc., but her hopes were not granted. I think the rest of us were happy about that. We were able to park fairly close to the trailhead so the walk, or hike, wasn’t bad at all. Returning to the car was a bit harder as it was pitch black. We had small flashlights with red bulbs in them that helped light our way. No regular lights were permitted as they disturbed the fireflies synchronization. The whole experience was fathomable.

both Tina and I are so thankful that Jerry and Tammy were willing to share their Lottery Winning with us. The fireflies only put on this show once a year for two or three days. And, this only occurs in two places in the world, The Smokies being one of them. Tennessee holds the lottery to control the amount of people and cars that are up there with only 7 people per car. I can’t remember how many cars, but all is well controlled.

None of us attended the story telling event. AS I read in the news, it was mostly for children so I believe we are OK in missing that. It would of been interesting I believe, but have my own stories to read so am fine. WE probably would of fallen asleep anyhow.

Deagan and Chael came to visit Jerry and Tammy. We went over to Jerry’s after our eye doctor appointments. It was fun getting to see them. They have grown so much and are now young men, not little boys. So handsome and talented. Now I have to look up to them as they both have grown tall, and handsome. Of course both have their own talents and are good in school. Tevia, their sister didn’t get to come this trip as she wasn’t feeling well. I missed seeing her and how much she has grown.

THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2024

Thursday, June 6, 2024 Partly Sunny Breezy Warm 80 Degrees 3:12 p.m.

Good Afternoon! It is a calm, pretty, and quiet afternoon around here. Yesterday I got the Craft room put back together. That took most of the day as I had to go hunt all the stuff I so carefully stuck away, out of the way, sight and mind. I was doing the finishing touches when Tina got home. We had to hurry and have dinner as we had Crafts at church at 6:30 p.m. It is 5:15 when Tina gets home.

At 3:30 this morning we were woken by this chirping. Tina got up and looked all over the upstairs, I got up and did the same. It was coming from the guest room. I’m wondering how a bird got in there and why wasn’t Sierra more interested in it? I finally go awake enough to realize it was one of the smoke detectors wanting a new battery. Sierra is all happy as we are up and thinks we should go down stairs and have breakfast. Finally I decided that going back to bed was useless so got dressed and came down stairs. Tina was already down here and Sierra was a bit persistent. She had left a furball on my bedroom floor so was hungry. I cleaned that up quickly. She got breakfast and Tina was to work very early.

As the day wore on, I decided to put a roast and potatoes, carrots, etc. in the crock pot. I am very busy cutting up the veggies, bent down to pick up a celery piece that flew off, and one of the lens fell out of my glasses. We go to the eye doctor on Saturday morning! I have my old pair that work most of the time, so can make it until then. The roast is smelling mighty good by now. The glasses are ready to go with me Saturday morning, lens and all.

My calendar is filled up for tomorrow. I go in with Tina, to Dottie’s, then to the doctor at 9:45 a.m. Then Tina arrives at Dottie’s and we do lunch. I think we are bringing our clothes to wear to go see the fireflies as we have to dress in long sleeve shirts, long pants, socks and sturdy shoes as we will be in the woods along with other critters, like mosquitoes, ticks, etc. WE are taking snacks, drinks, and sandwiches from Subway as it will be a long evening. We plan on being there by 6:00 p.m. and the fireflies don’t come out until near dark or dark, which is around 9:00 p.m. We have to take either red or blue cellophane to cover our flashlights as the other lights disrupt the fireflies light system. I hope to get some good pictures but we shall see. We are excited to see the spectacular show that the fireflies put on.

Saturday Tina and I go to the eye doctor in the morning, then in the evening we go to “The Flat water” which is here in Oak Ridge and it is story telling. I learned last evening that it is something spectacular and very enjoyable. A couple of the ladies have been a couple of times. So, more on that next week.

Tuesday, June 4, 2024 Cloudy Raining Still Cooler 72 Degrees 3:34 p.m.

The temperature dropped from 82 to 72 when the rain arrived. It will go back up once the rain is gone. The weather person said the rain should last until at least 8:00 p.m., and that can change with the next weather report on the 5:00 p.m. news. Sun is trying to peek out, so who knows ?

We have air conditioning! The installers just finished about an hour ago, and it sure is nice in here. Sierra is curled up on the rug in front of the door, snoozing away. The upstairs windows are now closed and I am in hopes it will cool down up there before bedtime. I do have a feeling Sierra will miss her open window, but she will get over it I am sure.

I asked the gentleman who was installing the unit about the units you see on TV that are good for a room. He said that they are great but it takes some work to put them in and hooked up. He said I should ask Scott about them if and when we wanted to install them upstairs. That will be a while for sure. He said that they are great for two story homes and buildings.

Now I have to put the craft room back together. It isn’t a big job, just time consuming if Sierra wants to help. She is such a good helper that it takes longer then not having the help would take, but not as much fun. She sat and watched the guys work, then gave up and went upstairs for a nap. I was so thankful she didn’t get in their way or head out the door when it was open.

Since I have to make dinner and also put stuff away, I believe it is quote time.
