Wednesday, March 20, 2024 Sunny Warm 2nd day of spring, 69 Degrees. 4:17 p.m.

March came in like a lion and went out pretty much the same way. Yesterday was sunny but windy and cold. Today we have just a slight breeze and it is lovely outside. That warm sun feels so good. The next rain is due in Friday. Hopefully Saturday is dry as we need to put down more small rocks in the flowerbed. It is beginning to look so nice out there. We want to plant some pansies in the one large pot. That will give the place some more color.

Yesterday was a busy day. I spent a lot of the day on the phone, then had work on the files; still spring cleaning the file drawer. I did clean out the fridge and that always takes time. The day sped by and all of a sudden Tina walked in the door. How time flies when one is having fun?!

Today I have done a lot of odds and ends. I planted the amaryllis, shredded the pile of papers from the file drawer files, got my “craft” ready for tonight; (I am taking colored pencils and a coloring book. I don’t know how much table space there will be, nor how many other people will be there and how much room they will need for whatever their crafts are. ), Did a load of laundry, hung up a couple of pictures, and stuff like that. Now am ready for this evening.

One can tell spring is here because of all the lawns being mowed. It seems like from 8:00 in the morning until 8:00 at night the sound of lawnmowers is heard. Ours was mowed Monday. the guy on the corner is out mowing his right now. A lawn mowing company just left from across the street. Here lawn mowing, tree trimming, and yard care are a very profitable businesses. The personnel doing each of these tasks are adults with trailer hauling their equipment. Not kids like when my kids were growing up, or even when I was growing up. I do have to admit that moat lawns are not flat, and have dips and holes, trees, stumps, etc so it isn’t an easy job. Occasionally one mowing will tip over and then have to get himself (or herself) up and the mower up , then continue. Some have gotten seriously hurt when the mower lands on top of them.

Have a great rest of your Wednesday. Make it a adventurous, exciting, productive, pleasant and fun day.

MARCH 18, 2024

March 18, 2024 Mostly Sunny Windy cold Dry 18 Degrees 4:20 p.m.

A chilly, Windy, last day of winter. Today is 20 degrees colder they yesterday, so hop[e tomorrow is 20 degrees warmer then today. The wind is what makes it so cold.

We can see spring is working its way i as the trees are budding and /or blooming. We have Pear trees, not the ones that produce fruit, but ones that have white blossoms and smell not so good. And the Red bud trees are starting to bloom. They are pretty and add variance to all the different greens, browns, yellows and whites. The Jonquils are blooming all over the place. The wind and the bird help to spread their seeds so they come up all along the roads and highways, in some yards and places that get the sun all day long. I guess they are also planted by some people as so many are in perfect rows. I thought that they were bulbs, but I could be wrong. They are very pretty, brightening up where ever they are.

Last Thursday I was busy cleaning the kitchen. I did use the stainless steel cleaner on all the appliances, the graniet cleaner and polish on all the counters. Then had to wash it off as best as possible as it said not to use on surfaces where food is prepared. Then I read farther along and said it could be used if the counters graniet was sealed. The counters shine even though I didn’t reapply. The counters were sealed a moth or so ago. They are to be sealed every four to six months I believe. I also cleaned and polished the stove top. WE have the stove with the burners in the glass top. It is the stove that is used mostly back here. I do miss the gas stove for cooking. Anyhow, it got to be an all day project as I did the floors also.

Friday Arthritis visited me. I hurt all over, from head to toe. That and sinuses did me in. By the time I went to bed Friday night I could hardly move. Saturday I was much better. Being better was a must as we went to Home Depot and Willows Nursery Saturday morning.

At Willows I inquired on how to care for the Amarillo plant and was told that I could plant it and keep it indoors as a house plant. If I wanted it to be an outdoor plant I should put it i a dry dark, cool place until next November, then take it outside and plant it. It is an indoor plant at our house, so is now planted and seems happy.

At home depot we bought rock to go in the flower bed as we believe that will be easier to keep then trying to put all kinds of plants in there. So Tammy and Dottie came over and worked like beavers to get the bed ready for the rock. We got rock in one portion but need to get probably ten to twelve more bags of the rock. I think it will look so pretty and will be easier to keep. We will still have the three azaleas and the one holly bush and I believe they will do well. The holly looks great.

Have a great rest of your Monday. Make it a successful, delightful, cheerful, positive and fun day.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 2024

Wednesday, March 13, 2024 Sunny Warm Breezy Nice 73 Degrees 4:32 p.m.

Another nice day, and so much appreciated. Sierra has spent most of the day in the sun and looking out either the front door or the back door. We have the glass “screen” doors. She enjoys the front one the most as she gets to see the lizards who come up close. This week it has been the doves who have ventured closer to the door. Also the squirrel seems to thing the sidewalk in front of the door is for his to hop on as he passes, stops and looks, then hops on. I guess it is a run at some points.

Tonight is crafts at church. People interested in doing crafts can bring whatever they are working on and work on it there while visiting with others, exchanging ideas, learning new things, and sharing their crafts and knowledge. I am working on a small scrapbook of post cards and other greeting cards that were received by my mother and her sisters. They date back to 1909. Back when you could mail a penny postcard for a penny. They are very interesting and very pretty. None of them say “made by Hallmark”. I have several old pictures that I will put with the cards so that it will have a bit more meaning to those who look and read in the future. It will be part of the Kringlen Family Tree which I am working on, slowly. I have four family trees that I am working on, The Gardner’s, The Kringle’s, The Walters and the Weavers. It is very slow going, but very interesting.

Last evening we went to the grocery store for items to complete the St. Patties Day dinner. I am so thankful that we went yesterday because there wasn’t much there to choose from. Neither Tina or I saw any corned beef. I bought ours a month ago and put it in the freezer. The carrots were there but only about 8. I took six of them. The selection of potatoes of any kind other then yams and sweet potatoes, was slim. We got a bag of red skinned “new” potatoes. I hope enough for my meal. I did get two loafs of soda bread. It looks good so we shall see. We will have Key Lime pie for desert. I though of making a true Irish desert, but the ingredients in most of them was a bit on the tipsy side. owning a liqueur store would of helped with the “spirits”. I don’t know who sells grough.

Quote of the day: “Our feelings do not affect God’s facts; They may blow up, like clouds, and cover the eternal things that we do most truly believe. We may not see the shining of the promises-but they still shine! [His strength] is not for one moment less because of our human weakness.” Amy Carmichael,, 1867 – 1951Irish Missionary to India, Poet.

Have a perfect Wednesday. Make it a exciting, productive, enjoyable and fun day.

TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 2024

Tuesday, March 12, 2024 Sunny Nice, Breezy Clear 63 Degrees 2:53 p.m.

I need to go grocery shopping for our St. Patties Day dinner so thought I should get the blog done before I hit the grocery store. I have my corned beef in the freezer, and I broke out the St. Patties Day sofa pillow and have it on the couch. It is nice to get a head start. I am thinking I should put the winter fox up and bring down the lamb. Spring is right around the corner.

The weather is pretty right now, but the weatherman said rain come Friday. I am hoping that it is dry on Saturday as we need to get the flowerbed looking like humans live here. It needs the winter froze and dead to be removed and fresh plants , rocks, whatever to replace it. Both Tina and I like the idea of rock rather then mulch as the weeds grow through the mulch even with the plastic underneath. And the mulch get blown away, dragged away, washed away. We shall see what flowers will be out there this year. Maybe pansies. The Dogwood tree is budding so am eager for it to bloom. We would like to plant a butterfly bush. We shall see.

I also have to make birthday cards as Wednesday is son Joe-ee’s birthday. He will be 61. He is doing O.K but seems to be regressing more each month. Dementia is not a easy disease for anyone…for the person who has it or their family and friends.

There isn’t much going on around here today. The dog, a black standard poodle who lives on the corner is out having a great time with his master. They are playing ball. They have a fenced in yard so he really gets to run and chase that ball. I am thinking that a fenced in area isn’t a bad idea. It would keep the dogs that aren’t on leashes from doing their business in our yard.

Quote of the day: “You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for her own improvement and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.” Marie Curie 1867 – 1934, Polish-Born French physicist.

Have a great rest of your Tuesday. Make it a productive, pleasant, active, and fun day.
