A RAINY DAY IN OAK RIDGE

Monday, July 18, 2022 Cloudy Rainy Still 76 Degrees 3:55 p.m.

Happy Monday! A great day to stay in and out of the rain. We had a gully-washer here so everything is wet and puddles are everywhere. No flooding right here but we came home from Clinton and several of the streets are flooding so I am sure there are places that are flooded. In spots it rained so hard we couldn’t see the car in front of us. We got home safe and I pray those that were on the road with us did also.

The piano is now gone and the experience of watching Jack take it apart was very interesting. There are 88 keys, which I knew, but I didn’t know that there are at least 220 strings. There are two or three strings to each key. The keys are held on the iron back board by iron knobs. There are a lot more parts and nuts and bolts and screws and tiny nails that went in to the making of this piano. It took him two days to get this piano apart and into the back of his pick-up. I can’t wait to see what type of art hi makes out of some of the pieces. there indeed is one man’s trash and another man’s treasure.

We went and voted today. I do appreciate early voting as there is no line and the process goes smoothly. They have a machine that once you complete your vote and print it, you take it to another machine and feed the long slip of paper (ballot) into it and that is their back-up. It is like putting a bill into the slot at the grocery store to pay for your groceries in cash. No change though. There were a lot of independents on the ballot this time. I guess that being associated with either the Democrats or Republicans wasn’t appealing to them. It might be all the feuding, fussing and fighting amongst them.

I though that I had best get my blog out early as who knows if of when the power might go out and stay out for a while. So far all is well on that score.

Have a great, safe, dry, healthy, and fun Monday.

TIE BLANKET MAKING WITH SIERRA

Friday, July 15, 2022 Sunny Slight Breeze Quiet 89 Degrees 4:19 p.m.

A pretty day, but hot. We went to the dentist this morning, then stopped at Kroger’s for a few items and home. We wanted to be ready for the man to come and retrieve the piano. He got here about a half hour after we got home. A very nice man, retired, an interesting. He said that he would take the piano and make pieces of art from most of the parts. He showed us some pictures of his art and he does beautiful work.

I thought that he would use the pieces to repair pianos but he said that pianos aren’t worth what they use to be and most people are trying to give them away. We gave this one. Pianos and organs aren’t selling in this day and age. I was rather surprised but when I thought about it there are more modern instruments around, like the keyboards that you can pick up and carry with you. The modern age has caught up with me again. Today he took most of the piano apart and will be back in the morning to finish the job. He has to bring help and a furniture dolly to get the rest out of the house and into his truck.

The rest of the day will be dinner and a bit of TV and early to bed. It was late last night and got up early this morning so I figure I should go to bed early or else I will snooze through television programs, then go to bed. Besides, Tina has to get up at 3:30 a.m. for work so I hope to get up at around 6:00 at.m. and be ready when that man comes to finish the piano demolition.

Quote of the day: One of the Ways to show kindness: The thought is already in your mind, so go ahead and say it: “I like your shoes”.

We will have more ways next week.

Have a wonderful Friday. Make it special, sweet, adventurous and fun. Continue that all weekend long. be safe and healthy.

Blessings

MILO, THE 2 YEAR OLD.
MILO THE 2 YEAR OLD CAT

Thursday, July 14, 2022 Mostly Sunny Few Fluffy Clouds 86 Degrees 4:36 p.m.

Another beautiful day in East Tennessee. I think we might get a shower later on but right now all is calm ans warm. I will have to go out and water this evening if we don’t get a shower. I don’t mind doing that as I love the green grass and healthy trees and beautiful flowers. The garden is going well for the most part. We lost the squash to the heat but there is always next year.

When we bought this house the only furniture that came with it was an old piano that has seen much better days. So Tina and I decided that we would put it on the for sale site on Face Book and see if anyone wanted it. It was a FREE item. It will have a new home tomorrow. I think the person who wants it will use it for parts to fix other pianos. It sounds terrible and it has a few battle scares. It will help other pianos have a better music life.

My project today was working on the drawers on the buffet. I didn’t get very far as I had a call from my cousin and we chatted for quite awhile. We had not visited for many years so it was fun catching up with that family’s news. We will keep in better touch.

Now it is time to get a quick supper and get ready for games this evening. I am prepared to be beaten in Yahtzee as I haven’t been lucky in that game for quite awhile.

Quote of the day: Be Kind to others: Small everyday acts of kindness have a bigger impart then you think. I’ve gotten so caught up in my to do list that my week has sometimes felt like a slog. Then an unexpected spark of kindness would remind me not to only enjoy the moment but also that life is filled with such moments. Katheryn Allen Berlandi Sherman, Connecticut

Have a fantastic rest of your Thursday. Remember to make it a cheerful, kind, friendly, safe and fun day.

BLACKBERRY SEASON

Wednesday, July 13, 2022 Partly Cloudy 86 Degrees 4:55 p.m.

Yes, you are getting this on Thursday. We live in the Secret City so why this didn’t get accomplished on time is a Secret. Just pretend that it is a very late Wednesday Blog.

The day was busy with doing odd jobs that I keep wanting to do and putting off for one reason or another. I cleaned out two drawers and tossed stuff that should of gone in the trash instead of the drawers. they look great now and everything is now in sight and together. So nice. I also found cords that go to things that we may or may not still have. I shall start going through things and see if they have a home.

Blackberries are now in season. Dottie Turpin makes the very best blackberry cobbler. Yum Yum!

Quote of the day: Better Late Then Never!

Hope you day was wonderful and filled with love, laughter and fun
